At Wayside Water Gardens, we stock a huge range of pond filters so we have something for the smallest natural pond to the largest of koi ponds. When purchasing a filter ensure that you know just how many litres or gallons your pond is, and that you are clear on how the pond will be stocked with fish. The more fish and koi you have, the bigger the filter will need to be. We have 3 ratings on all of our filters so you can see how much water they can filter for an empty (natural) pond, a lightly stocked fish pond and koi pond. If you are unsure what your fish stock will be like, we would encourage customers to for the largest filter they can as a filter can never be too big, but it can often be too small.

Pressure filters are the most popular range of filters now sold, the main advantage they have is that they can be installed at any level of the watercourse, and they are usually smaller and easier to clean than a traditional box filter. They also include UVs so there is no need for an additional unit.

Box filters are the classic pond filter and although they require more effort to maintain than a pressure filter, they are just as good at filtering the pond water, and they are usually the most cost-effective way of filtering a pond. They usually include a range of sponges, floss or fleece and a bio media such as flocor or alfagrog. Box filters often do not include a UV so one will need to be added to prevent the water from turning green.

Finally, we now offer a range of koi pond filters including Oase drums and Nexus / Eazypods by Evolution Aqua. The filters are designed to keep the water crystal clear with heavy stocking rates of koi, whilst keeping the maintenance to the least amount possible. They each come with a cleaning routine which is fully automated, or part automated so there is no need to clean sponges and get wet and cold for hours that you would have with a traditional box filter on a pond 3000 gallons or more which is highly stocked with koi. These filters really are excellent quality and if you're serious about koi keeping, a really worthwhile investment. We have working models of these filters at our shop in Oldcotes, Nottinghamshire if you would like any more advice or see one working.
